Leading tire manufacturer Goodyear Philippines, Inc. was recently awarded the Ford Q1 status, the company’s highest recognition for supplier quality and customer satisfaction. Goodyear is the first tire manufacturer in the country to achieve this status, as well as the first in its ASEAN network.
The Ford Q1 recognizes Goodyear as a supplier who has achieved a level of excellence in customer satisfaction and demonstrated unwavering commitment and support for continuous improvement in quality and productivity. This achievement affirms Goodyear’s ability to follow standard processes, provide quality products and services, and meet delivery requirements.
“We are proud and honored to receive the prestigious Ford Q1 status. This recognition affirms our position among the best suppliers globally and validates our commitment to continuous improvement and quality. It also reinforces our dedication to a long and strengthened business relationship with Ford,” Goodyear President and Managing Director Dave Morin said.
To qualify for Q1, Goodyear had to undergo a rigorous audit, ensuring that the company qualifies in the manufacturing site assessment and meets various capable systems criteria. The audit also evaluated the company’s ability to link policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement.
In congratulating Goodyear, Ford Group Technical Director for Manufacturing and Purchasing Jason Shang said the achievement solidifies Goodyear’s position among the industry’s best. “More importantly, we want to thank Goodyear for being our partner in providing products that boast of the highest quality and our ally in promoting road safety,” he said.
As its core value, Goodyear aggressively promotes safety through various projects across three areas--road and driver safety, environmental safety, and workplace safety.
Achieving the Ford Q1 status is among the recognitions of excellence in quality and customer satisfaction received by Goodyear from other car manufacturers. According to Morin, Goodyear owes its success to the employees who have been the driving force that made it possible for Goodyear to achieve the Ford Q1 status.
“With their individual and combined efforts, Goodyear was able to satisfy Ford’s strict requirements. Our pool of highly skilled employees have also enabled us to maintain excellence and continually improve the quality of our products and service,” Morin said.
Achieving The Ford Q1 status is the culmination of a wide-ranging certification process in Goodyear. In November of 2003, Goodyear earned TS16949 certification, signifying compliance with quality systems standards for the design, development, production, installation, and servicing of automotive-related standards. ISO/TS16949 is a set of global standards set and accepted by an international group of vehicle manufacturers in the , Europe and .
As part of the certification requirements, Goodyear also accomplished ISO 14001 certification in December of 2002, recognizing the company’s environmental management system and its strong commitment to pollution prevention and environment conservation. It also received the MS9000, a set of guidelines for Materials Management Systems that help ensure continuous improvement of information and material flows through the organization.
Ford Q1 assessment also required Goodyear to meet quality and delivery performance criteria, set at 100% delivery reliability and zero-defect rate in one million parts, over a 12-month period. While the Ford Q1 passing score is set at 800 points, Goodyear surpassed the benchmark with its current score of 1,200 points.
